Gold will do well this year but is not on a verge of a breakout, says Rick Rule, CEO of Sprott U.S. Holdings.”Confidence in too many things is too high,” Rule told Kitco News on the sidelines of the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, “gold does well when people are afraid of other stuff.”  Rule is more upbeat on gold miners, despite miners having lagged physical gold last year.  “Gold miners are going to surprise, particularly because of low expectations,” Rule said.

Gold – In the Shadow No Longer

0

The highly impressive increase in price of cryptocurrencies has loomed large over the lustrous metal of gold for the most part of 2017, leaving investors to wonder what promise 2018 might hold for this highly favoured precious commodity.

Jordan Eliseo at ABC Bullion stated in his interview with Kitco that, “gold will continue its recovery from the bear market. We see the metal appreciating towards $1,375-$1,425 in 2018”.

While relying on pundits may seem as safe a method as relying on a 2-year old not to turn their plate of spaghetti into Picasso on your kitchen floor, the winds of sentiment do seem to be blowing in favor of an increase in the price of both gold and silver in the coming year. Gold is already trading above US$1350/ounce today.

Given that investments in cannabis and blockchain have been so popular, many junior resource investors are left with a feeling of being left behind by junior resource stocks failing to share in their counterparts skyrocketing prosperity. Paradoxically, the profits investors are accumulating in the cannabis/crypto stocks could be a boon for the junior mining sector as the profits gleaned could easily role into accumulating resource stocks.

For my part, I’ve found myself amongst the investor base screaming out for a move by the junior mining sector only to be left watching as these other sectors continue to rise to unseen heights. As the calendar continues to turn into the current year, I maintain my belief that we’ll see the mining sector begin to move in the direction we all desire. While I am neither seer nor oracle handing out predictions through crystal ball and tarot, more earthly portents can be seen in the key factors and performance analysis for those who are watching.

One thing the mystical arts and predictive investing share in common, however, is unpredictability. In the case of investing, that unpredictability manifests in the stock market.

One indicator that reveals itself as a key factor to gold’s performance is the value of the US dollar. Casting our eye back to 2017, we can see that the greenback suffered a decline of nearly 10%. The reasons for this are legion, and should it continue as I believe it will in light of the current political and economic uncertainty, gold will continue to rise in line with the increased buying power found in foreign currencies which will put it in easier reach of more investors. As demand rises, so does the cost of the resource.

Speaking of demand, we need to take a look at supply, its counterpart to find another indicator. Mining technology hasn’t really advanced much in the past year, and scarcely more in the few years past. This means that gold will probably continue to come in at a predictable production cost, while demand for it upswings. High demand and diminishing supply? That’s a recipe for rising prices.

The next important element to consider is US Federal Policy – the politics of that country have an inordinate affect on the price of gold. Fiscal tightening tends to have the result of decreasing the value of gold, but this past year hasn’t shown that trend to be holding out. Three interest rate hikes over a single year and gold has continued to increase in value. Perhaps if you’d like to thank someone for these circumstances, you might feel moved to write a letter of thanks to the US Government and their Commander in Chief, Donald Trump. So long as political unrest continues in the US, this commodity is bound to continue rising in value. Add in the recent cuts to the corporate tax rate and equities and gold may both see a rise in tandem with inflation and interest rates, an occurrence rare enough to be nearly unique. Investors may be inclined to seek a place to invest their profits made in ganja and crypto stocks, and where better than the old reliable that is junior gold stocks?

Whatchoo talkin’ about Willis? You’ve already told me that gold should continue to rise! Remember the crystal ball phenomenon, predicting the timing is very difficult, though time coupled with the technical analysis reveals that the patient investor should see great rewards.

Ultimately it comes down to this. Whether you’re looking for evidence that the value of gold will rise or decline, you’ll find it if you look hard enough. Predictions exist that gold will tank, and other predictions have been made by experts that indicate it may rise to a value of $5000/ounce. In light of the key indicators mentioned above I have every reason to believe the increase should continue into 2018.

This could very well be the year for junior mining stocks to reward the patient investor. As always, do your own due diligence before making any investments – the informed investor is a wise investor.

Happy Investing!

MGX Minerals Increases Ownership Stake in PurLucid Treatment

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA / January 25, 2018 / MGX Minerals Inc. (“MGX” or the “Company”) (CSE: XMG / OTCQB: MGXMF / FKT: 1MG) is pleased to report the Company is exercising its option to acquire an additional 5% ownership interest in engineering partner PurLucid Treatment Solutions (“PurLucid”) from existing shareholders in exchange for 1 million MGX shares. The Phase IV investment agreement share option exercise increases MGX’s ownership in PurLucid to 51%. The Company maintains the right to acquire 100% through successive future investments.

Since announcing an acquisition and engineering partnership agreement in September 2016, MGX and PurLucid have invented new technology and filed patent applications related to brine treatment and selective lithium recovery. PurLucid’s licensed nanoflotation technology, which purifies wastewater brine, has since been integrated with a newly developed lithium recovery process. MGX holds the global rights to the jointly developed lithium extraction technology.  MGX and Purlucid are now commissioning the first 750 barrel per day system, with flow testing expected to be completed shortly.

About PurLucid
PurLucid’s exclusively licensed and patented nanoflotation technology was designed specifically for oilfield environments. The technology separates impurities from oil and gas wastewater and produces clean water as a final product. This allows for the recycling or controlled release of oilfield wastewater and reduces or eliminates downhole and associated transportation costs. Water handling costs are one of the largest operating costs in the oilfield and oilsands operations today. Learn more at www.purlucid.com.

I Bet My Blog on a 2018 Economic Collapse

Full Article: I Bet My Blog on a 2018 Economic Collapse

By: The Great Recession Blog

My 2018 economic predictions follow through on the accurate predictions I made in 2017. In my last article, I stated that I had bet my blog the stock market would crash by January 2018. That was my thinking back then based on where Obama had been taking us. In fact, however, when I went back last week and rechecked my economic predictions and my bet, I found I had wisely revised my thinking even that far back and had hedged my bet due to the Trump factor.

I realized even at the very start of Trump’s term that, for the short term (2017-2018), Trump would seriously alter the timing of our trajectory toward economic collapse that had been laid in during the Obama years — the path by which I had been predicting an economic apocalypse would soon be upon us. I had also predicted in 2017, though, that Trump would not improve things over the full length of his term because our underlying economic woes would only get worse … even under Trump.

MGX Minerals Announces 1.79% Li 186ppm Ta Over 6m

2018-01-24 08:30 ET – News Release

VANCOUVER, BC / ACCESSWIRE / January 24, 2018 / MGX Minerals Inc. (“MGX” or the “Company”) (CNSX: XMGFSE: 1MGOTCQB: MGXMF) is pleased to report that joint venture partner Power Metals Corp. (“Power Metals”) has announced additional drill hole assays for lithium (Li) and tantalum (Ta) mineralized intervals for the Main Dyke at Case Lake, east of Cochrane, Ontario. Significant intervals for the Main Dyke include:

  • PWM-17-45: 1.67 % Li2O and 127.7 ppm Ta over 6.0 m (8.0 to 14.0 m)
  • PWM-17-45: 1.58 % Li2O and 233.68 ppm Ta over 8.0 m (23.0 to 31.0 m)
  • PWM-17-46: 1.79 % Li2O and 186.45 ppm Ta over 6.0 m
  • PWM-17-50: 1.31 % Li2O and 106.62 ppm Ta over 6.0 m (12.0 to 18.0 m)
  • PWM-17-50: 1.48 % Li2O and 179.35 ppm Ta over 11.0 m (31.0 to 42.0 m)

Drill hole PWM-17-45 assayed lithium and tantalum grades up to 1.94 % Li2O and 735 ppm Ta. The coarse-grained spodumene inner intermediate zone from 8.0 to 14.0 m is followed by a very coarse-grained pegmatite zone and K-feldspar and pure quartz core (14.0 to 23.0 m) and by another high-grade coarse-grained spodumene inner intermediate zone from 23.0 to 31.0 m. This indicates that the high-grade spodumene pegmatite zone is concentrically zoned around the quartz core. An impressive 47 cm long spodumene crystal occurs in the core near 10 m depth (Figure 1). The Main Dyke in this hole has a good-grade outer pegmatite zone and the total width of the Main Dyke in PWM-17-45 is 34.71 m.

Drill hole PWM-17-50 has continuous Main Dyke pegmatite for 32.02 m. The pegmatite intersection contained high-grade coarse-grained inner intermediate zone (12.0 to 18.0 m) followed by quartz core and by another high-grade coarse-grained spodumene inner intermediate zone (31.0 to 42.0 m). This indicates again that the high-grade spodumene pegmatite zone is concentrically zoned around the quartz core (Figure 2).

PWM-17-49 was drilled to target both the first and second new spodumene dykes that were discovered down hole of the Main Dyke near the end of the 2017 drill program. Both new dykes are open in all directions. Drilling is required to define these new dykes.

Assay highlights for the first new dyke include:

  • PWM-17-49: 1.61 % Li2O and 143.8 ppm Ta over 3.0 m
  • PWM-17-49: 2.13 % Li2O and 265.0 ppm Ta over 1.0 m

Assay highlights for assays > 0.5 % Li2O holes PWM-17-45 to 50 are given in Table 1. Drill hole collar locations are given in Table 2.

Power Metals and MGX have an ongoing 3000 m drill program on the Northeast Dyke that commenced in early January (see press release dated January 10, 2018).

Quality Control

The drill core was sampled so that 1 m of the Case Batholith tonalite host rock was sampled followed by 1 m long samples of the pegmatite dyke and 1 m of the Case Batholith. The sampling followed lithology boundaries so that only one lithology unit is within a sample, except for the < 20 cm pegmatite veins in tonalite which were merged into one sample. The drill core samples were delivered to Actlabs preparation lab in Timmins by Power Metals’ geologists. The core was crushed and pulverized in Timmins and then shipped to Actlabs analytical lab in Ancaster which has ISO 17025 certification. Every 20 samples included one external quartz blank, one external lithium standard and one core duplicate. The ore grade Li2O% was prepared by sodium peroxide fusion with analysis by ICP-OES with a detection limit of 0.01 % Li2O.

Case Lake

Case Lake Property is located in Steele and Case townships, 80 km east of Cochrane, NE Ontario close to the Ontario-Quebec border. The Case Lake pegmatite swarm consists of five dykes: North, Main, South, East and Northeast Dykes. The Northeast Dyke contains very coarse-grained spodumene. MGX currently has a paid up 20% working interest in Case Lake and four other lithium hard rock properties in Ontario controlled by Power Metals as well as any additional properties acquired prior to August 2020. The Company has the right to acquire an additional 15% working interest, for a total of 35%, in Case Lake Lithium and the other lithium properties by making a one-time payment of $10M prior to August 2020. The Company holds an option to acquire 10,000,000 shares of Power Metals at $0.65 (see press release dated August 2, 2017).

Qualified Person

The technical portions of this press release were reviewed by Andris Kikauka (P. Geo.), Vice President of Exploration for MGX Minerals. Mr. Kikauka is a non-independent Qualified Person within the meaning of National Instrument 43-101 Standards.

Last week the U.S. Global Investors office was visited by a living legend in the junior mining industry, billionaire founder and executive chairman of Ivanhoe Mines, Robert Friedland. In case you don’t know, back in the mid-1970s, Robert was caretaker of an apple orchard south of Portland that one of his buddies from Reed College would often visit. That buddy’s name was Steve Jobs, who later went on to found a little company he named—what else?—Apple.

Before Robert and Steve Jobs began palling around, Jobs was known as shy and withdrawn. It was Robert who taught him his skills in what’s been described by many as “reality distortion.” Having seen numerous speeches by Robert over the years, I can attest to his masterful ability to utterly command a room of hundreds with his electric charisma. Some of that charisma must have rubbed off on Jobs, helping the future iPhone innovator evolve into the shrewd, larger-than-life business leader he’s celebrated as today.
