MGX Minerals Reports High Grade Gold Mineralization

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA / December 3, 2018 / MGX Minerals Inc. (“MGX” or the “Company”) (CSE: XMG / FKT: 1MG / OTCQB: MGXMF) is pleased to announce a discovery at the Fran Gold Property (“Fran” or the “Property”) in British Columbia, 30 kilometers southwest of the Mount Milligan Gold-Copper mine. Drill hole FR18-95 has returned a broad intercept from 227.0 to 241.0 meters of gold mineralization at depth in the Bullion Alley Gold Zone. This has confirmed extension of gold mineralization in auriferous veins from near surface to depth. The highest-grade gold mineralization was contained within a quartz-pyrite vein which averaged 21 g/t Au over 2.2m including 35.9 g/t Au across 0.76m and 26.70 g/t Au over 0.75m. The hole was drilled at an inclination of 55 degrees and depth of 314m. Drill data from the Fall 2018 drill program is currently being reviewed and correlated with the existing database of 87 previous drill holes.

The Company has re-mobilized a drill to the property. The access road has now been cleared of snow and the drill rig will arrive at the property shortly with drilling to re-commence this week. The Winter 2018 drill program will further test the Main Zone at depth and along strike to the East, as well as test under explored zones with high grade historical results proximate to the Main Zone.

Discussion of Hole FR18-95
FR18-95 was collared and oriented perpendicular to strike of previously tested steeply-dipping mineralized structures. The hole location is situated in between historic drill holes 75 and 81/62, and successfully intercepted the 50-70 meter down-dip extensions of mineralized Zone 3, Zone 2, and Zone 1.

The mineralized interval for Zone 3 was intercepted from 204.00 to 205.35 meters, showing high-grade gold mineralization observed as a 135cm quartz-pyrite vein enveloped and cross-cut by black-chlorite alteration assaying 4.25 g/t over 0.52m and 6.74 g/t gold over 0.83m. The up-dip mineralization of this zone is also high-grade. This intercept shows that this zone is still open at depth.

Zone 2 was extended at depth with a broad zone of mineralization from 227.00 to 241.00m ranging from anomalous to very high-grade. The highest grade of gold mineralization was contained within a quartz-pyrite vein which returned 35.9 g/t Au across 0.76m with proximal high-grade mineralization associated with moderate pyrite content and strong black chlorite alteration above the vein at 6.35 g/ton over 0.72m and below the vein at 26.70 g/t Au over 0.75m. Additional high-grade intersections within this zone are association with strong black chlorite alteration and moderate pyrite mineralization. This broad intercept shows that this zone is open at depth with the potential for wide and high-grade mineralization down-dip.

Zone 1 was also intercepted at depth from 275.50 to 279.35 meters and features gold mineralization associated with black chlorite alteration and moderate sulphide content. The highest-grade mineralization was 2.21 g/t Au over 1.35m. This zone extension at depth shows that this zone is still open at depth and has comparable grade to up-dip intersections of mineralization.

Fran Gold Project
With the exception of short hole reconnaissance drilling at Fran East in 2017, the Fran Property has been dormant since 2011. The property encompasses 10,227 hectares and is located 30km southwest of the Mount Milligan Gold-Copper Mine and 19km by logging road from the Mount Milligan western access road. The Bullion Alley Zone has been the subject of extensive shallow exploration starting in the late 1990’s. Significant gold mineralization associated with shear zones has been intersected by historic diamond drilling. A total of 15,575 metres of diamond drilling was completed in 87 drill holes at the Bullion Alley Zone prior to 2018. Previous drilling identified three areas along the northwest trending 1.5km strike with up to three lateral zones. This drilling encountered numerous gold intercepts with variable Ag, Cu, Pb, and Zn. Previous work presumed the auriferous veins pinched out at depth (MacIntyre 2013, MINFILE 093 108).

The recently discovered gold mineralization at depth suggests an alternative model must now be considered, and that gold mineralization extends and remains open.  No significant drilling below 150m occurred prior to 2018.

“At MGX we have always taken risks others were not willing to take. Previous operators did not test the Bullion Alley strike at depth, but drilling deeper than ever before at Fran appears to have returned initial favorable results. Although early in this new exploration, MGX has immediately found continuity along strike and within the main gold zones 1, 2 and 3.  We have now opened the Fran Property up to a re-examination,” stated MGX Chief Executive Officer Jared Lazerson.

Quality Assurance / Quality Control
The sample chain of custody was managed by site geologist Myles Dickson (P.Geo). Drill core was stored and split at a secure storage facility in Fort St. James, BC. and shipped to ACT Labs Minerals (“ACT”) for assay using 1A2-ICP Kamloops Au-Fire Assay and 1E3-Kamloops Aqua Regia ICP(AQUAGEO). Blanks and standards were used for data verification purposes. ACT is an independent, ISO-certified analytical laboratory located in Kamloops, British Columbia.

To Succeed In The Markets You Must Become A ‘Second Level Thinker

“To achieve superior investment results, you have to hold non-consensus views regarding value, and they have to be right. That’s not easy… The good news is that the prevalence of first level thinkers increases the returns available to second level thinkers. To consistently achieve superior investment returns, you must be one of them.” -Howard Marks, The Most Important Thing

This is one of my favorite investing quotes because it helps to explain how asset prices move. Many investors are surprised when a company reports good earnings and its stock price sells off or vice versa. What they don’t understand is that price moves come about as a reaction to results versus the consensus not results versus company guidance or prior results or their peers or anything else. This is what separates “second level thinkers” from “first level thinkers”; they understand this crucial distinction.

Freezing Temperatures Could Heat Up Natural Gas Prices

Full Article: Freezing Temperatures Could Heat Up Natural Gas Prices

By: Frank Holmes

Here in San Antonio, the temperature hit a bone-chilling low of 27 degrees last Wednesday, breaking a 102-year-old record for mid-November. An out-of-state visitor, Cornerstone Macro’s Head of Portfolio Insights Stephen Gregory, speculated that the Central Texas temperature, ordinarily mild this time of year, was down more than three standard deviations. I didn’t make the calculation, but my guess would be about the same.

With temperatures so low, it’s perhaps no surprise that natural gas had one of its best days in years. Its price popped almost 18 percent last Wednesday—before falling nearly as much on Thursday. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that natural gas storage in the lower 48 states was below the five-year average as of October 31. This, combined with a stronger-than-expected start to winter, prompted traders to push prices to a four-year high of $4.84 per million British thermal units (MBtu). Meanwhile, natural gas futures trading hit an all-time daily volume record of 1.2 million contracts, according to CME Group.

MGX Minerals Announces Completion of Gasification Scoping Study

0

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA / November 21, 2018 / MGX Minerals Inc. (“MGX” or the “Company”) (CSE: XMG / OTCQB: MGXMF / FKT: 1MG) and Highbury Energy Inc. (“Highbury”) are pleased to report completion of a comprehensive study analyzing beneficial gasification routes from Petroleum Coke (“Petcoke”) to three products of value: Hydrogen, FT Liquids and Fuel Gas. Each of these products has potential markets in the oil sands and heavy oil industry. The report outlines a variety and comparison of plant design parameters and a Petcoke-to-Hydrogen process with metals concentration via gasification, utilizing Highbury’s patented dual-bed gasification technology, which requires no fine grinding or air separation unit. The goal of ongoing joint research with Highbury is to develop fuel source alternatives and concentrated battery metals by-products including vanadium, nickel and cobalt, which can be seamlessly integrated into existing refinery operations. The study is viewed as positive and the project will now move to the demonstration plant design phase and preliminary pre-feasibility analysis.

Metals in Pet Coke and Ash
Previously released assay results of Petcoke samples collected from stockpiles produced from the Fort McMurray area mining and upgrading operation as well as an Edmonton refinery are summarized below. Both samples originated from Delayed Coking operations. Samples were obtained and prepared by Highbury and metal contents analyzed by Acme Labs of Vancouver, British Columbia using standard ICP analyses.

Ash Content
Ash content was determined by weighing residues after burning coke samples of about 200 g in air in a muffle oven over extended periods at 815°C. Table A indicates the average ash content of 6 to 7 samples of each coke.

Table A. Ash Content of Coke Samples

Sample name Ash content (% wt.) No. of samples tested
  Upgrader Coke A 2.73 ±0.09 6
  Refinery Coke B 0.32 ±0.04 7

Upgrader Coke A had about nine times as much ash as was in Refinery Coke B.

Proximate Analyses
The cokes contain over 95 % organic (non-mineral) matter. Thermogravimetric analyses on 10 mg quantities are shown below.

Table B. Proximate Analyses of Coke by the Thermo-gravimetric Analyser Method

Quantity (wt. %) Upgrader Coke A Refinery Coke B
  Volatile Matter 8.9 10.0
  Fixed Carbon 86.9 86.3
  Residues 4.3 1.7

Residue refers to residual mineral matter left after the thermo-gravimetric test. Except for the % Residue, the two cokes have similar combustion properties.

Metals Analysis in the Coke Samples
Lithium borate fusion ICP-MS method measures 45 trace metal concentrations in the coke. Results are expressed as (mg/kg) or ppmwt. Table C lists concentrations of selected metals.

Table C. Selected Metal Concentrations in Coke (mg Metal/kg Coke)

Sample V Ni Cu Zr Co Au Ag
  Upgrader Coke A 421 76.8 86.2 40.5 4.8 0.0011 < 0.1
  Refinery Coke B 458 53.4 35.9 1.3 1.3 <0.0005 <0.1

Vanadium is the highest concentration of the 45 trace metals detected in the coke samples.

Ash Analyses
Ash analysis was completed by Bureau Veritas Commodities Canada Ltd. (“BV”) of Vancouver, British Columbia using XRF method (XF701). Results are expressed as % wt. in the ash as oxide. Sixteen elements as oxides, and LOI (loss on ignition) are determined. The ash samples were prepared in Highbury’s laboratory and sent to BV for analysis. The maximum % the analysis method could accommodate was 10.0 % for V2O5; therefore ash samples were diluted by mixing with other solids. In the Highbury laboratory both Al2O3 and Fe2O3 were used.

Table D. Selected Species in the Ash of Each Coke Type

Species (wt. %) Upgrader Coke Ash A Refinery Coke Ash B
  Al2O3 27.7 9.8
  SiO2 42.6 23.6
  V2O5 6.6 45.1
  Fe2O3 8.0 2.7
  TiO2 5.7 0.7
  K2O+MgO+CaO 4.0 6.4
  LOI 0.0 4.3
  SubTotal (wt.%) 90.8 92.5

For Upgrader Coke A, the sum of Al2O3 +SiO2 is about 70 %. V2O5 is about 6.6%, according to the ash analyses. For Refinery Coke B, the average % V2O5 in the ash is 45 %.

Table E. Trace Metals Concentration in Ash (mg Metal/kg Ash) for Selected Species [Two Determinations Average]

Sample V Ni Cu Zr Co Au Ag Mo
  Upgrader Coke Ash A 34600 740 130 1840 230 0.02 2.5 1405
  Refinery Coke Ash B 193000 177000 340 405 620 0.02 0.175 5000

Vanadium metal concentrations are 3.5 % wt. in Upgrader Coke Ash A, and 19.3 % wt. in Refinery Coke Ash B, which is also enriched in Nickel.

Background
Petcoke is a carbon material by-product of the oil and gas industry that forms during the oil refining process. As refineries have become more efficient at processing extra heavy crude oils (bitumen) over the last two decades, output of petcoke globally has risen significantly. Because petcoke originates from heavier petroleum fractions, its denser impurities such as metals and sulphur compounds are concentrate in it.

The majority of Canadian petcoke output occurs in close proximity to oil sand producing regions, where bitumen is upgraded into synthetic crude oil. Specifically, the Province of Alberta is known to host vast stockpiles of petcoke. According to the Alberta Energy Regulator, petcoke inventories are estimated to have reached 106 million tonnes in 2016(1).

Research and Development
Development of the detailed process will be spearheaded by Dr. Paul Watkinson, a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia and a co-founder of Highbury. Dr. Watkinson is a published expert in the field of gasification and oversaw early work on related oil sand gasification in the early 1990’s. He is also a registered Professional Engineer, Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering. Dr. Watkinson is also an active participant in the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering as well as Engineering Conferences International. He has received numerous awards for his research and has published multiple articles in scientific journals on pilot-scale investigations of conversion of carbonaceous solids, such as coal, shale and biomass, into gaseous and liquid fuels.

N.I. 43-101
Although authored by leading experts in the field and significantly advancing research and development of gasification and metals extraction, N.I. 43-101 does not recognize a scoping study as a N.I. 43-101 Compliant Report. As such MGX cannot release any economic projections whatsoever in regard to metals extraction or associated gasification steps. As Petcoke is widely available in very large quantities at low cost in the Alberta Oil Sands it is unlikely MGX will complete an N.I. 43-101 Resource Estimate, which precludes a compliant Preliminary Economic Assessment, Pre-feasibility Study or Feasibility Study that would allow for the release of economic projections. It is anticipated that a Pre-feasibility and Feasibility Study will be completed for the plant design itself but not the Petcoke resource as it will be purchased as needed and not owned or controlled by MGX.
