MGX partner starts testing Li recovery system

MGX MINERALS COMMENCES PILOT PLANT TESTING FOR LI-1 LITHIUM RECOVERY SYSTEM

MGX Minerals Inc.’s engineering partner PurLucid Treatment Solutions has commenced operational testing on the Li-1 lithium recovery unit at its testing facility in Calgary, Alta. The Li-1 pilot plant is capable of processing 20 cubic metres per day and will be expanded to increase throughput to 100 cubic metres per day. Initial testing is focused on lithium-rich brine samples obtained from MGX lithium and petrolithium properties and as well as oil and gas partners. Testing is currently under way to finalize technical specifications for contractual arrangements with industrial and oil and gas partners. In addition, MGX’s deployment plan continues to focus on the company’s land package of over two million acres of lithium brine mineral claims in North America.

“This system represents the physical and operational templates that move us from bench scale to the field and provide the engineering basis for large commercial systems (greater than 1,500 cubic metres per day) we expect to deploy into MGX’s property and partner base,” said Jared Lazerson, chief executive officer of MGX Minerals.

Concurrently with pilot plant testing, fabrication of a commercial-scale system capable of processing 200 cubic metres per day is under way and expected to be ready for deployment in the fourth quarter of 2017. Based on results of pilot plant testing, the company plans to ship commercial-scale systems to sites in the United States and Canada beginning in the first quarter of 2018.

MGX and PurLucid have fully integrated their respective technologies. The pilot plant separates impurities from oil and gas waste water, allowing for lithium and magnesium extraction as well as reuse and repurpose of industrial water and brine.

CRUZ COBALT ENGAGES EAGLE GEOPHYSICS FOR ONTARIO COBALT WORK PROGRAM

Cruz Cobalt Corp. has secured the services of Eagle GeoPhysics based out of Quebec to conduct the airborne work program over Cruz’s Ontario cobalt properties. The airborne survey is the first of several work programs that are being formulated.

Cruz president, James Nelson, stated: “This is a very positive step forward for us as our goal is to get to work as soon as possible on these properties and we currently have more than sufficient cash on hand to undertake the multiple planned work programs and Eagle has extensive knowledge of the area around the town of Cobalt. We currently have two drill permits in hand and anticipate approval on the others shortly. Cruz is set to be one of the most active junior cobalt companies in the coming months, with multiple work programs expected to commence in multiple countries, states and provinces.”

Cruz currently has nine cobalt projects located throughout North America, comprising four in Ontario, three in British Columbia, one in Idaho and one in Montana. Cruz’s four separate Ontario cobalt prospects are all located in the vicinity of the town of Cobalt making Cruz one of the single largest landholders in this emerging cobalt district. Cruz’s Ontario projects include the 900-acre Coleman cobalt prospect, the 900-acre Johnson cobalt prospect, the 5,500-acre Hector cobalt prospect and the 1,480-acre Bucke cobalt prospect. The company’s 4,935-acre War Eagle cobalt prospect in British Columbia covers a past-producing mine.

The best performing precious metal for the week was silver, up 3.34 percent as investors loaded up on ETFs that purchase the physical metal, perhaps speculating that silver would outperform gold if the latter rallied. Gold traders and analysts remained bullish this week, for the fifth week, as the European Central Bank keeps its stimulus going, reports Bloomberg. In addition, as the dollar slumps amid an investigation into President Trump, gold heads for the first back-to-back weekly advance since early June, another Bloomberg article reads.

Gold bulls are keeping their faith in the metal, reports Bloomberg, as the equity rally pares the yellow metal’s gains. Gold bulls have pointed to slow inflation and Fed concerns that asset prices look “somewhat rich.” Similarly, a Bank of America Merrill Lynch survey shows fund managers are growing hesitant to buy U.S. equities. Jason Mayer of Sprott Asset Management says that the non-stop bull market has led to a lot of complacency where managers aren’t hedging. “Once that tide turns, that could prove to be bullish for gold and precious metals,” Mayer said.

European benchmarks sank deeply into the red Friday morning as investors reacted to a string of corporate earnings disappointments and poor economic data.

French and German stocks led the decline after French consumer spending was shown contracting more than was expected in June and both markets bore the brunt of the morning’s selloff.
